Time for a new Whiskers & Tales story! This one comes from Maggie, mom to 2 pit bulls that are too precious for words! Here's what she has to say:

"Niche is 9 , Tankers will be 9 in October. I got them within 6 months of each other, and they are definitely the best of friends. Where one is, the other is right behind. They are constantly playing, although its really usually Niche FORCING Tank to play. So YES, Tank is extremely LAAAZZYY! OMG!
Growing up Niche has been the one with the most energy! She never runs out of energy! Her favorite thing to do is play with sticks or balls, or really anything she can fit in her mouth. I thought as she got older she would calm down a bit, boy was I wrong. She likes when my friends come over so they can throw her the ball back and forth, back and forth! It's too funny!
Then Tank has to come out and “ act” like he wants the ball, but he really only wants it because Niche is playing with it. They really are like brother and sister! They play fight, but at the end of the day they HAVE to sleep with each other! They are best friends and I don't know what I would do without my babies!
My mom absolutely LOVES coming out to my house while I'm gone and babysits her “grand doggies”, as she calls them. She even brings them SONIC! Omg, I know they are super spoiled by their MeMe. At first my mom was kinda scared of them, because they are big animals! Tank weighs about 85 pounds! So he is quite intimidating when you first see him! Niche is only about 60 pounds, but she is a quick little booger!
So a few months ago, I was taking the dogs to their yearly vet appointment, and Shady Brook had remodeled the entire place, and I saw these awesome paintings of these dogs, and IMMEDIATELY I thought, OMG, I WANT MY DOGS' PICS PAINTED! First thing I did was ask the lady at the desk, “Where did these paintings come from? “ And that’s when they introduced me to Micah.. Now I have these bad ass paintings! And OMG, the compliments I have received from them! I have them hanging in my living room for everyone to see! I am so proud to show them off!"

Pits often have a negative stigmata in the public's mind, but they're really VERY loving, very loyal dogs. I"m so honored to have created portraits of them for you to have forever and ever!
Readers, if you're interested in learning about Pit Bull Rescues, Rehab and more, I'd like to suggest a group called Guardian Pit Bull Rescue, a non-profit, breed specific rescue located north of Houston. They are dedicated to saving the lives of Pit Bulls, educating people about this misunderstood and often mistreated breed of dogs, as well as rehabbing and finding homes for rescued Pits.

Many of the shelters in Houston are kill shelters, and Pit Bulls are the most common to be euthanized. While there are a few reasons for this, the biggest impetus behind the high kill rate for Pits is their continued abuse and misuse by people. Education is important, as well as passing laws that enforce adequate sentencing/punishment on animal abusers (Michael Vick, anyone?) If you're interested in learning just how far the law does (or doesn't extend) in Texas, here is some very helpful information.
