In short:
- To order, purchase the correct listing from my store based on the size portrait you want and the number of faces in the painting.
- I will send you a link to fill out a form on my website where you upload digital photos of the subject and fill out important details about the portrait that I will use to create your custom painting.
- Your photo is sketched and painted.
- A digital proof is emailed to you. Once it's approved, the painting will be sealed and then shipped to you!
Important:
Portrait requests will be completed in the order received. Turnaround time will depend upon the size and complexity of your portrait and the number of orders already in the works...which I'll tell you in a confirmation email that includes an estimated completion date. You'll have a chance to review and approve your portrait (and request a change, if desired) before the portrait is finalized and readied for shipment.

- Your photo submission must be a close-up image of the subject to be painted. I prefer the photograph to be in COLOR, and the print size of the original photo needs to be at least 4" x 6". Your cell phone will take a great photo, so feel free to use pictures from your phone. Thanks technology!
- If electronic submission is not an option, you may submit a high-resolution print of your photograph via regular mail. Please contact me for mailing instructions.
- If a 4" x 6" print (the minimum suggested size) is scanned, set the scan resolution to 300dpi, which will result in an image that is 1200 pixels by 1800 pixels. Digital camera photos may be sent straight from the camera, or you may resize to no smaller than the above-mentioned dimensions if the original file size is too large for e-transport (as long as they are at least 300ppi (pixels per inch).
- For more detailed information on the subject of DPI vs. PPI, check out this informative article by Ken Watson.
The photo should feature only the person or pet whose portrait you want painted, and the FACE should be the focus of the photo. In other words, the person's or pet's face should fill up the photo! Special traits like eye color, whiskers, freckles, a smile, and hairstyle are important, and should be clearly seen in the photograph. A cell phone photo or Instagram photo is generally not high enough quality, but there are exceptions.
• If you desire a portrait of three or more people (a family portrait, for example), close-up photos of each person are preferable, so that I will have the level of detail I need to paint the best representation of each person. Commercial family photographs do not typically zoom in on faces so they are not really suitable for inspiring my hand-painted portraits. I will fill the entire canvas space, so the larger the image and the closer the subject, the better!
• Photos taken by a professional photographer that you paid for are copyrighted and protected images belonging to that photographer- NOT to you. You must ask permission to use their photographs, since a painting is a reproduction or re-representation of their art work.

Once you have placed your order, I will provide a confirmation email that includes an estimated completion date. Portrait requests will be completed in the order received. The turnaround time is dependent upon the size of the painting, the number of subjects and how many other orders I'm working on.
Please note: If you request a portrait to be completed within two weeks of order date, you will be charge a RUSH FEE. This fee is dependent upon season ($40 January - September. $85 October - December). Generally, portraits are completed and shipped to you within 3-4 weeks of ordering, unless you order during a high production season (October - December). When you order, I will give you a turnaround time so you know exactly when to expect your portrait.

After sketching the image(s) on the canvas, painting takes from 3 days to 2 weeks, depending upon the size of the canvas, and my personal work load. The painting is sealed with a varnish for protection against sun and moisture. Once it's finished, you'll receive an email with a photograph of your painting for you to approve. The custom portrait purchase price includes one modification (if necessary). If more than one modification or addition is requested, you will be charged an extra fee of $5 per modification, due before shipment, via PayPal.
I will then ship your hand-painted portrait to you!
